I'm not a skinning professional but i can give you some tips to improve :
If you're drawing with a mouse, try using the line tool, it gives a nice smooth effect. I tend to shade alot with a mouse.
Don't be afraid of outlining an image, it can actually help alot when making an eye.
Use UV maps when editing textures in a drawing or photo editing software, it can help you determine the where the texture ends and stays.
If you're used to 3d modelling software, you can download the models from Kano that he posted in the Tutorials section of the forum and edit it with Texture painting (I use it alot to shade, gives a nice smooth effect.)
